Jump straight to answers regarding: "Where Am I?"This is mamaswap, an online consignment community for parents. My name is Sarah, and I'm a stay-at-home mom in Seattle. (Ravenna) I'm thrilled that you stopped by. Please email me at support@mamaswap.com if you have any questions. General QuestionsHow does mamaswap work?Mamaswap is an easy way for people to sell their used kid's stuff directly to people who want to buy it. We designed the site so that it can be used one-handed, automatically saves your session so that you can come back to it later, and has as few steps as possible for buying or selling an item. To sell, you post a picture and brief description of the item, set the price and your shipping options and you're done! To buy, just select the item you want to buy and press the "Buy This Now" button. That will take you to PayPal so that you can pay the seller. Please remember to come back to mamaswap to select your shipping type and add any notes to your order! Who is behind mamaswap?Mamaswap was dreamed up by Sarah Bell and Megan Wright at the Mosaic coffee shop in Seattle. Sarah ran with the idea and with the help of her designer husband, Jon, and super duper awesome friend (who also happens to be a top notch developer) Tres, developed and tested mamaswap over the course of a year. More info is at our Big Thank You Page. Why Seattle only?Mamaswap is all about community building and we thought that would be easier if we limited the site to a specific city to start. Since we live in Seattle, Seattle it is! What About the Eastside?Yes! Absolutely! Soon! Account QuestionsDo I need an account to buy on mamaswap?Nope! We made a point of making accounts optional for buying stuff. Do I need an account to sell on mamaswap?Yes. When you set up an account to sell, we ask for a credit card number for your monthly bill and an email address. If you already have a PayPal account we strongly encourage you to use the same email address as your PayPal account, as that is where buyers will be sending money. Should I use the same email address as my PayPal account uses for my mamaswap account?Yes! Buyers will be sending money to the email address you provided when you set up your account on mamaswap. If you don't have a PayPal account, never fear, you can still sign up and when your first item sells, PayPal will ask you to set up an account that hooks to the email you used to set up your mamaswap account. How do I edit my account?Unfortunately, right now you can't edit your account yourself, but we can make any necessary changes manually. If you need to change any of the information in your account, please just write us at support@mamaswap.com and we'll help you out as quickly as possible. Adding account editing functionality is in the plan, we just haven't gotten it working yet. Help! I forgot my login ID/password! What do I do?Email support@mamaswap.com and we'll get you up and running in no time. We are working on an automatic password reset page. Buying QuestionsWhy only PayPal?We chose to use PayPal because they had the best rates for you, the seller and us and people are familiar with the way PayPal works. They are trusted worldwide and are generally a very easy to use service with good support. How do I know that the seller will actually deliver my goods? That's where community comes in. Since mamaswap only operates in Seattle, we want buyers and sellers to be held accountable within the community. If a seller doesn't deliver, it is likely people will hear about it and that seller won't be very successful on the site in the future. We will explore a ratings system in the future as the site grows, but for now, we are counting on the community to police itself. What in the world is a swap? The idea behind the swap is for buyers and sellers to come together and meet each other. Swaps will span a 4 hour window where sellers will drop their goods off by the start of the swap and buyers will be responsible for picking their stuff up by the end of the swap. Everyone is encouraged to stay and chat, bring their kids to play, and meet other fellow mamaswappers. Right now, the swaps will be held at my (Sarah's) house in Ravenna, North Seattle. Swap times will be posted on the site up to two weeks ahead of time. What do I do if an item of mine sold but the buyer didn't complete the transaction by selecting a shipping option?First, please send an email to support@mamaswap.com. When the buyer paid for the item through PayPal, you should have gotten a receipt from both mamaswap.com and PayPal containing the buyer's email address. Please send an email to the buyer asking that they go back to mamaswap.com and complete the transaction. You may use this text for the email: "Hi! You recently purchased __ from me through mamaswap.com, but you did not return to mamaswap after paying through PayPal to select your shipping type. Please go back to www.mamaswap.com and click on the green bar advising you that you have a transaction waiting to be finished (it's right underneath the "Shop" and "Sell" tabs). Please explain the three shipping options.Ship- This means you physically ship the item using the USPS, UPS, FedEx, or DHL. Please specify your preferred shipping company in the description for your item. Pick-Up – This means you are asking the buyer to pick this item up at your home or office. You will need to work out where the exact pick-up location will be with the buyer. Swap – Swaps will be planned as often as we need them (but not more than 2 weeks apart). As a seller, we ask that you drop your items off no later than the time the swap is set to start. All are welcome to stay and get to know one another!
